Childhood was made lovely by these folks….they were always full of imaginative stories, laughter, and love. These guys influenced me and my cousins for the good….and they are all priceless.

I find beauty in old objects…and below are a few images of some beautiful objects I recently photographed. The objects in these pictures are no doubt very old, but being old isn’t enough…being true to my style I photographed these objects from a juxtaposed angle and a close up view brings out lovely patterns and textures.

I found the trunks to be especially interesting….I was fascinated by their texture and color. In places the leather is puckered and wrinkled….much like an elderly face.

All the items here date from around the 1850’s. Real people in times long ago used these items in their daily lives. Like each person has a story to tell….so do these objects….these beautiful old souls silently tell their story to anyone who is willing to listen.

Arrows in Life…..

being an artist, direction in life, images of arrows, life of an artist

We use arrows to show people which way to go….in life we see lots of them…on our roads…back of buses and trucks….road signs…

There are invisible arrows as well…even though we don’t physically see them…these arrows are present. I think of these invisible arrows as decisions. We make decisions based on facts…emotions…opinions…religious beliefs…

In life we have many decisions to make and these decisions effect the direction our lives take.

As I have gotten older…I have started reflecting on the direction my life has taken and reviewing the decisions that have gotten me to this point.

Below are a few mixed-media drawings I have made while reflecting on my life…some were made with charcoal…..and others were made with pen and ink, pastel, and watercolor.

These series is not done….but it is a start.

Suspicious Mind…..

photographs of water, pond images, rural georgia landscapes, water reflections

These pictures are of a little spring fed pond on the back side of our farm…. I called this series Suspicious Mind because I have been thinking about what happens when relationships break down and to me these photographs reflect an uncertain quality. The bottom of the pond, the water’s surface, and reflections of the sky in many areas merge into a tangled color mass and the eye becomes a little uncertain as to what it’s seeing.

These photographs visually reflect what often happens when our relationships begin to fragment. Water reflections are similar to suspicious thoughts and questioning of another’s motivations, thoughts, actions, and so on. Slipping relationships become merky like the the unknown bottom of the pond. Being unsure of the direction a relation is taking is no more certain than a water reflection.

But beauty can be found… as I find our little pond to be a beautiful place…so can a trouble in a relationship be worked into something beautiful.
