black and white images of clouds, cloud images, Georgia clouds, images of clouds, nature photograph
Hi Everyone!
Went to California last week and did a quick tour of the southern part of that state…will share some of those pictures and a few of our adventures in up coming post….but for now wanted to share these black and white pictures of Georgia clouds….every summer we have a few tremendous storms roll through and with these storms come some beautiful cloud formations.
When taking these photos I was experimenting with a new filter….I knew the California sun would be super bright and we would probably be in most places at mid-day…and as you know mid-day is not the best light for taking picutes….so I wanted to be sure I understood this polarizing filter before I went out west…
Below are a few pictures I got at mid-day of Georgia’s clouds….
Love the drama…..

One of my favorite things to do is to head off into the woods and take pictures of stuff I find….so I had to figure out a way to work this into my job as a Naturalist at a Georgia State Park….so came up with the idea of “Photo Safari”. The first time I did this program I had a really great family join me. The kids were totally into it. The little boy was finding frogs, snails and bugs.
The little girl…she was about 12…followed my every foot step and together we snapped pictures of Mountain Laurel…
and Black Eyed Susie’s…
This program turned out to be a great creative collaborative effort. If you would like to join us on our next Safari check out Tugaloo State Park’s facebook page to see the day and time for our next scheduled Photo Safari.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day….we don’t typically do the traditional Mother’s Day thing….guessing we don’t because we were living in India when our kids were small and that Holiday didn’t come printed on calendars made in India….to my credit me and my daughter had a great day out and about together….and part of that included taking these guys picture. I thought they were interesting and the fuzz ball that was once a yellow flower was delicate and fabulous with all it’s detail.

Went on a Bird Walk with the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society this Saturday and was suppose to be looking up for birds and getting their pictures…..but I couldn’t keep my eyes off the ground. It had just rained and the forest was a mixture of beautiful greens and browns…occasionally the sun would lend some dabbled patches of light…and the forest floor would radiate with song. Oh yes…I really enjoyed seeing the birds…even got to see a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo…but the things on the ground made better pictures….
So here is Mr. Turtle….a new red eyed friend I made….I think I caught him in the middle of eating his lunch.
And here is Mrs. Sime-Mold….she is doing her thing…her little arms (the small strands of yellow) are busily looking for a new source of food….she’s got to keep the family happily nourished and together.

So what do you do? That question has caused me much grief over the years….not that it is a bad question….but how do I answer it?
You know…all the stuff that goes behind such a loaded question like this one. Am I successful? Do I measure up? Is the person asking me the question…sizing me up?
I come from a long line of Jack-of-all-Trades…my ancestors weren’t drifters…but they did have a bit of gypsy in them. My Dad’s side came from the mountains of North Carolina. My Dad’s brothers taught me how to fix cars, roof houses, and generally how to fix almost anything. My Mom’s side came from northern Alabama and almost all of them had a stubborn artistic streak of one kind or another.
So what do I do? ….instead….I like to think in terms of what I have become. I have become a person that I like hanging out with…I have the freedom to be artistic on my own terms…I get to go on adventures with my family…and most importantly I get to view life from a different point of view….
I do have a job…but what my paying job is…is not important.
Instead…I’m an explorer of life and I have all the fun of capturing life as I see it….even if it’s a cow’s nose.
I love the creative life and the freedom of creativity…

Last spring I missed many flowers….because I was too busy to stop….so I made a pack with myself that this spring I would stop. On this particular road trip I spotted these…
Tried to set the aperture for a shallow depth of field…but the wind wasn’t cooperating….made the flowers blurry…so with a few adjustments managed to get a few shots. These two were my favorite.

inStarted playing with my Nikons aperture settings while getting a few shots of Dandelions. Found these little guys in our driveway while bringing in groceries…. after I got the milk in the refrigerator I grabbed my camera and headed back outside. What really struck me about these fluffy little remains…was the deep rich color of the seeds.
